Black
Black Glass or, sometimes referred to as “Pirate Glass,” is a very old and rare type of glass used in the 1600s to the 1800s mostly for bottles. The oldest black glass is amber or olive green and sometimes contains bubbles. There is also more recent glass from the late 1800s to the early 1900s that appears black, but under strong light can show a variety of bright colors. Those are generally found on the Durham Coast of England on beaches like the famous Seaham Beach.
Blue
Cornflower Blue
Cornflower blue sea glass was given its name from the cornflower plant or “bachelor’s button.” It’s a lovely shade of blue and comes in all shapes and sizes.
Gray
Gray sea glass is very rare in the U.S. and Caribbean, but more common in Europe. Much of the gray glass we find comes from old TVs. It makes for beautiful two-tone sea glass with a gold stripe running through it.
Green
Green Sea Glass covers an array of shades, from pale “sea foam” to dark, olive green. But generally people think of Kelly Green when they hear green sea glass. Much of it consists of old, broken beer bottles, but some of the more rare shades are quite lovely. Some light green sea glass is UV reactive, containing trace amounts of uranium. So take a black light to your sea glass collection and see if anything lights up!
Lime Green
Lime green sea glass is actually quite rare, and is usually only found as thin chips with ragged edges. The only source I have found for rounded thick lime green sea glass is the island of Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean. These unique pieces are called “Authentic Bonaire Limes.” (and for good reason) Their brightness is spectacular. You may think you have a piece of lime-green sea glass, until you put it next to a Bonaire Lime, then you’ll truly see the difference.
Sea Glass Multis
Multi-colored Sea Glass or “multis” as they’re referred to can also be “art glass.” A multi is any piece of sea glass that has more than one color in it. They usually have come from decorative pieces of glass that somehow ended up in the sea and have been tumbled around for a hundred years.
Orange
Orange is the rarest color of sea glass on the rarity chart. It was primarily used in depression-era glass, and sometimes came from warning lights on boats or covers from car lights that somehow found their way to the sea. In the years that I have been collecting sea glass, and of the thousands of pieces I’ve found, I have maybe 7 pieces of orange. I rarely part with them.

Location
Purchase Sea Glass by location, such as the Mediterranean, England or the Caribbean
Caribbean
Sea Glass found by me in the Caribbean including the islands of Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Grand Turk and Grand Cayman.
Mediterranean
Mediterranean Sea Glass is some of the most beautiful in the world. I have found a range of colors and types of glass all along the French and Spanish coastline.
Seaham Area
Sea Glass from this area includes Seaham Beach, and other beaches in County Durham including Easington and Shippersea Bay.
Types of Sea Glass
Shop by the different types of sea glass like, multis, art glass, bonfire glass, canes, slag glass, gems and more!
Art Glass
Art Glass is a type of sea glass that was once used for decorative hand-blown bowls, vases and other decorative glassware. It generally has a white glass backing and has multiple colors of glass on the front, sometimes referred to as “multis.” It’s very rare and makes beautiful jewelry.
Beads
Sea Glass Beads or “Sea Beads” are very uncommon and usually only found in areas that once had glass-blowing facilities. I’ve found them in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Bonfire Glass
Bonfire glass is sea glass that has been under intense heat at very high temperatures causing a bubbly kind of look.
Bubbles
Sea Glass “Bubbles” refer to sea glass that is thick and well-rounded. They are very old and usually found on beaches like Seaham and in some areas of the Mediterranean.
Craft Sea Glass
“Craft” quality sea glass usually has some flaws like chips or ragged edges. It is not generally used for jewelry but for craft projects where quality isn’t as important. It comes in all colors and found on almost every beach where sea glass is found.
Dragon Eggs
“Dragon Eggs” are unique to the Durham Coast of England. They are glass that was fused with ore at extremely high temperatures. The leftovers were tossed into the sea where they cooled rapidly. The effect almost looks like rock, with geometric glass within. I’ve seen them in dark green and blue glass.

Jewelry Quality Sea Glass
Jewelry-Quality Sea Glass are pieces that have little to no flaws. They are suitable sizes and shapes for jewelry. These pieces of sea glass can be any color from a plain green with a beautiful shape, to the rare sea glass gems that are old faceted pieces of glass used in jewelry a hundred years ago.
Lampwork Canes
Sea Glass lampwork canes were once long pieces of colored glass used in a process called “lampwork”, as well as other decorative glass-blowing techniques. This unusual sea glass is generally found where old glass factories or glass blowing studios were once located. They would toss the remnants of the day’s work into the sea, where it would be tumbled by the ocean waves for a hundred years or so, yielding these beautifully frosted glass canes.
Large Pieces
Marbles
Sea Glass Marbles are just that, old marbles that have been tossed around the sea until they’ve become worn and frosty. Marbles that are smooth and have no wear on them could sometimes have been “seeded” by locals to make their beach more appealing.
Sea Glass Gems
Sea Glass Gems are faceted glass pieces that were used as jewelry during the Victorina Era up until the 1950s. They are usually worn down so that the facets are smooth. They’re absolutely stunning and extremely rare.
